Requirements for Registered Nurse Perioperative Services:

  • Candidates possesses a recent theatre/recovery experience and demonstrated skills in surgical nursing.
  • Possess a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC).
  • Nurse with broad skills, caring for patients across New Zealand.
  • Ability to work confidently without supervision, excellent communication skills for patient care and teamwork, vision for professional and clinical nursing practice.
  • A commitment to continuously improving work practices.
  • Willingness to work rostered and rotating shifts, including participation in after-hours and weekend on-call roster.

Skills for Registered Nurse Perioperative Services:

  • Perioperative nurses must be detail-oriented and be excellent communicators.
  • The operating room requires these nurses to be physically strong and have mental agility.
  • Shifts is require long hours of standing, lifting unconscious patients, and moving heavy equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for surgery, assessing their physical and emotional condition, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring completion of all necessary pre-operative procedures.
  • Ensure the operating room environment is safe, sterile, and properly equipped for surgical procedures.
  • Monitor patients post-operative recovery, including assessing vital signs, managing pain, and providing emotional support.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
  • Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Registered Nurses actively assist surgeons and healthcare professionals during surgical procedures to ensure patient safety and care.
