UCSSC Lake Gyanendra is a Senior Secondary College situated centrally in Belconnen. The college site includes the Academy of Future Skills, Belconnen Training (RTO), the Academic Excellence Program and Sporting Centers of Excellence. The college caters to over 800 students in year 11 and 12 seeking to obtain a senior secondary certificate including both tertiary and vocational pathways. The College is seeking a classroom teacher who can take a leading role in the College’s Outdoor Education Program. Over 100 students access the program annually and have the opportunity to study at either a tertiary or vocational level, allowing them to gain a Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation.
About you:
- You have relevant and recognized teaching qualifications as well as Certificate III or IV in Outdoor Leadership ideally with specialization in some of the following – snorkeling, bushwalking, caving, rock climbing, abseiling, cross country skiing and wilderness first aid and vertical rescue.
- Have a passion for teaching and education and support a student-centered approach to learning.
- Can demonstrate knowledge and successful application of senior secondary curriculum in Outdoor Education / Recreation.
- Have positive classroom management skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Proven experience establishing and fostering relationships with students, staff and parents/careers.
- Are committed to supporting the wellbeing of students.
- A light-rigid bus license would be an advantage.

Eligibility requirements for employment
To be eligible to be employed as a teacher in an ACT public school, you must:
- Education qualifications – Have an approved four-year full-time tertiary education qualification and a Certificate III or IV in Outdoor Leadership. Applicants with qualifications gained outside of Australia should complete a skills assessment by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) to confirm qualification requirements and English language proficiency to teach in Australian schools. - Teacher registration – Hold a valid approval to teach with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI). If you do not hold a teacher registration with the ACT TQI, we suggest starting your application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity. Teachers holding registration in another Australian state or territory or New Zealand are eligible for mutual recognition.
- Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration – Have a valid ACT WWVP. If you don’t, we suggest starting your application process at the same time.
