As a Lead Welder, you’ll operate metal fabrication equipment such as gas tungsten arc (GTAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), flux-cored arc (FAW), plasma arc (PAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW), and resistance welding. In addition to individual welding responsibilities, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day functions of the department.

What you’ll do:

  • Assign work schedules to ensure production needs are met.
  • Review scheduling of vacation times to support achieving performance metrics.
  • Coordinate shift to shift scheduling.
  • Coordinate shared services scheduling (Plasma, Heat treat, NDT, etc.)
  • Coordinate work with up-stream and down-stream processes.
  • Ensure personnel voucher direct labor hours on work orders as performed.
  • Ensure assignment of work is clearly communicated prior to the start of each work day to personnel.
  • Support activities around implementation of new product line development.
  • Support the performance of major maintenance by the Maintenance Department.
  • Train, assist and lead team members in proper work procedures and practices.
  • Performing routine quality checks of work.
  • Support team to ensure positive morale.
  • Ensure the development and cross-training of team members
  • Ensure repair operations are properly performed and documented.
  • Lead the housekeeping of the Production Areas to meet 5S expectations.
  • Ensure daily that team members perform preventive maintenance of production machines and equipment as scheduled.
  • Support the start-up and shut down of the production facility to ensure the security of the facility.
  • Lead the Team members follow safe behaviors and address unsafe conditions.
  • Support Continuous Improvement Projects.
  • Support process trials (changes in the process) to improve efficiency.
  • Facilitate small group problem solving or brainstorming activities.

Position Requirements:

  • 2 years or more of experience in the same or similar position in an FAA regulated environment.
  • Ability to understand, read and write English.
  • Working knowledge of computer software; MS Word Processing software and MS Excel Spreadsheet software a plus.
  • Experience with training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; assisting with appraising performance.
  • Available to work OT and weekends if needed.
