About the Role
As a Farm Production Manager, you’ll report to the General Manager and oversee the day-to-day operations of our horticultural production. This role is pivotal in ensuring cost-effective, high-quality crop production while leading a team of supervisors and workers. You’ll manage budgets, implement crop management strategies, and drive efficiency across weeding, harvesting, and farming activities. With a focus on collaboration and leadership, you’ll chair weekly operations meetings, mentor staff, and ensure compliance with safety standards. This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to innovate by introducing new product lines and optimizing planting and irrigation schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Your key tasks will include:

Budget Management: Oversee budgets with a focus on labor costs versus throughput in key areas like weeding, harvesting, and farming activities.

Team Leadership: Work closely with direct reports, ensuring Weeding Supervisors prioritize tasks, manage teams effectively, and maintain cost efficiency.

Crop Forecasting: Provide accurate crop availability forecasts and communicate effectively with packing shed and sales teams.

Crop Management: Implement and monitor strategies for crop vigor, moisture, weed and pest control, soil nutrition, and overall crop health.

Planning and Scheduling: Develop and execute yearly, monthly, and weekly planting, fertilization, and irrigation schedules to maximize quality and yield.

Innovation: Identify and implement new product lines, analyzing costs and farming techniques against sales targets.

Operations Management: Chair weekly farm operations meetings to align key staff and drive performance.

Staff Development: Recruit, train, and mentor key staff to build a strong, cohesive team.

Safety Compliance: Ensure all team members adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) obligations.
