The role
As a Motor Transport Shift Driver you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll have a key role working within a small but highly effective Transport Services team, where the highest standards will be expected. You’ll be required to drive and operate a wide range of general and specialist vehicles, from Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV, which include cars, minibuses and coaches), to both rigid and articulated Large Goods Vehicles (LGV). You’ll be responsible for making sure RAF personnel, equipment and vehicles get to the right place, at the right time!
Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:
- Loading/unloading and restraint of loads at both RAF Cranwell and RAF Digby as required.
- Driving passenger carrying vehicles with up to 53 passengers
- Ensure full and complete Daily inspections are carried out when tasked or required. Any faults found are to be reported promptly to MT Control personnel using the correct documentation.
- During snow and ice season, employees may be requested to work extended hours and operate the snow and ice vehicles.
- Complete when required Airfield Sweeping duties in line with the RAF Cranwell Sweeping plan.
This role is full time and based onsite at RAF Cranwell, near Sleaford. You’ll work an average of 39 hours a week on a shift basis, however you’ll need to be flexible as there may be changes to the roster from time to time, to meet customer needs. This role will be 3 early shifts, 3 late shifts and 3 days off shift pattern.
Essential experience of the Motor Transport Shift Driver:
- Familiar with Vehicle inspections
- Previous driving experience in Mechanical Transport and Logistics environment.
- Experience with Driving hours and Tachographs.
- Some form of previous leadership experience (can be non-work related)
Qualifications for the Motor Transport Shift Driver:
- Clean driving License Cat B.
- Must be able to pass a color perception test.
