About the Job

As the Operations Manager – Construction Grey-Bruce, you will report to the General Manager – Construction Grey Bruce, and oversee and supervise operational functions of all construction projects , such as; project management oversight, ensuring highest quality of deliverables on projects. Process and control to ensure projects adhere per specification and overall operational efficiency to ensure maximum profitability. Ensure sites adhere to health and safety, environmental and labour policies, procedures and legislation.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Analyzes budgets created from bids and works with project coordinators and supervisors to achieve project budgets and profit margins
  • Oversees workloads and provides staff supervision to ensure that work is done accurately, efficiently and complies with policies, procedures and regulations as well as best working practices
  • Provides guidance, motivation, and performance review including hiring and terminating employees, to maintain and enhance competency levels, identify future training requirements and achieve goals to increase performance
  • Works closely and cooperatively with customers and their representatives to affect positive outcomes and foster strong working relationships on projects.
  • Creates a positive working environment through heightened participation and expansion with construction teams, fleet maintenance, and QA/QC departments to foster long term employee growth and commitment
  • Work with GM and team members to assist with creating capital and operating budgets to allocate sufficient funds as required for effective management and monitors costs to ensure adherence to the budget
  • Analyzes data, prepares presentations, creates reports, and attends meetings to provide and communicate information to GM and construction executives
  • Ensures emphasis is placed on producing quality products. Identifies, investigates and resolves quality issues promptly and efficiently
  • Ensures operations are in compliance with high Walker standards and all regulatory requirements to maintain integrity and a positive corporate image. Maintains positive relations with local neighbors and representatives of the community to ensure exchange of information and resolve issues that arise from time to time (Social License)
  • Attends industry association functions, committee meetings, and seminars to keep current of applicable information to support business growth as required
  • Works in liaison with other departments in the AggCon Group to build strong partnerships
  • Work with maintenance to ensure key pieces of equipment are serviced and ready for the season
  • Supports and promotes growth of company cultures and values
  • Other duties as required or assigned

Here’s What You Need

This position requires an advanced level of initiative and judgment to organize, prioritize and supervise daily tasks. Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues, customers and their representatives in every day working relationships.

  • Greater than 7 years of civil construction industry experience including supervisory skills and background.
  • Strong understanding and experience working in the heavy civil construction sector, specifically, road building, site servicing and Municipal reconstruction.
  • Superior levels of interpersonal and communication skills to promote and foster relationships with existing and potential customers, suppliers, colleagues and industry associates
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings in order to manage an efficient work flow on projects
  • Advanced numeric skills to analyze and interpret financial information, develop and monitor budgets, recommend improvements and negotiate contract pricing to improve overall costs
  • Advanced ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems, often complex and abstract and in nature
  • Demonstrated computer skills to produce effective reports, documents and presentations
  • Advanced ability to pay close attention to details, makes sure work is done correctly and thoroughly. Keeps accurate records
  • Business acumen – advanced understanding of quality standards relative to business management and growth
  • Able to work with limited supervision and to take discretionary action as required
  • Proficient communication skills, both oral and written to disseminate information with clarity, in one on one, or group situations
  • Communicates well in writing by composing clear documents; facility with editing and/or proof-reading is required
  • Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with customers, general public, colleagues, including senior management
  • Proactive – anticipates and initiates action to meet needs
  • Adaptable – able to work with diverse personalities and styles
