Psychiatry Registrar Job In New Zealand

Te Whatu Ora Health is actively seeking a psychiatry registrar to join their team in Whangarei hospital, New Zealand.  Whangarei hospital is the largest population centre providing secondary care service. This is a secondary base hospital providing a wide range of services including emergency department (ED), medical specialists, paediatrics and psychiatry. The ideal candidate is responsible for conducting psychiatric assessments and evaluations of patients. It must have ability to provide quality care within the hospital. For this position within the psychiatry department, candidate are required to have a doctorate degree in psychiatry. This full-time position offers a competitive salary range is $85,000 to $120,000 per year.

Responsibilities for psychiatry registrar:

  • The candidate design and executes personalized treatment strategies for individual experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Delivers crisis intervention and support to patients within acute psychiatric environments.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Possesses the ability to monitor patients progress and adapt treatment plans.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation.

Qualifications for psychiatry registrar:

  • Candidate must be completion of a medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • It must be registration as a medical practitioner with the medical council of New Zealand.
  • Holds relevant postgraduate qualifications or certificate in psychiatry.
  • Clinical experience in psychiatry gained through internships, residencies, or previous work experience.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, empathy and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of cultural competence and commitment to providing culturally safe and responsive care.
