About the job
In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Telecommunications Technician II installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains telecommunications equipment throughout Interior Health. Diagnoses telecommunications problems and formulates solutions. Configures and tests hardware and software. Gathers and analyzes user requirements to develop solutions. Prepares work plans for implementation of telecommunications hardware and software and completes work orders.
Responsibilities
• Configures, tests, installs, maintains, moves, changes, and removes telecommunications equipment, services, and software.
• Develops and maintains documentation related to the design, configuration, support and testing of telecommunications equipment, software, and systems.
• Analyzes and diagnoses telecommunications problems and formulates solutions. Implements programs to monitor system performance and recommends enhancements to accommodate current and future telecommunications requirements.
• Gathers user requirements, performs analysis to determine needs, prepares work plans for implementation of telecommunications hardware and software and completes work orders
• Determines requirements and methodology for installing telecommunications services, including suitability and appropriateness.
• Acts as liaison with telecommunications partners to help make telecommunications systems reliable and ensure that telecommunications issues are resolved in a timely and cost effective manner.
• Develops and maintains procedures related to the design, configuration and support of telecommunications equipment, software, and systems.
• Maintains database of telecommunications equipment, services, and system components and configurations.
• Assigns work tasks to designated staff and provides related training and orientation.
• As a member of the team, consults and participates in the specification planning, design and installation of data and telecommunications cable plants in the Region.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
Grade 12, graduation from a recognized two year technology diploma program plus three years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
