Pan Pac Forest Products Limited is currently seeking a trade assistant to join their team in Whirinaki, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. As a  Trade Assistant, candidate will work alongside a team of highly skilled saw doctors who will provide training, mentorship, and full support. This role offers the opportunity to gain a national certificate in solid wood manufacturing sponsored by the company. The position entails working in shifts 4 -10 hour shifts per week, covering both days and nights, with occasional Saturday shifts, over a 3-week rotating roster. The role is based at the Whirinaki mill site, conveniently located 15 minutes north of Napier. Candidates should possess the ability to work independently or within a team. Responsibilities for Trade Assistant:

  • Gaining knowledge and understanding about the saw guide setup.
  • Fully understanding the saw lube setup and calibration of oil flow.
  • Understanding the function and process of alignments and assisting with these.
  • Assisting in ensuring all saw centres are readily available and cutting to the correct specification (paired with a qualified saw doctor).
  • Ability to problem-solving and troubleshooting around the reliability of saws.
  • Understanding the function of the saw lube units and conducting routine maintenance and performance checks on this machinery.

Skills for Trade Assistant:

  • Ability to understand and work with machinery, tools, and equipment commonly used in woodworking and manufacturing settings.
  • Ability to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and find effective solutions independently or as part of a team.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and follow instructions accurately.
  •  Ability to adapt to changing priorities, tasks, and work environments in a dynamic production setting.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety practices, including adherence to safety protocols and regulations
